I a beginner to this so any help will be appreciated. I would like to backup a couple of my playstation games. I used nero to do a cd copy and all seemed ok but when I tried it on my game console no go. What is the problem. I have heard that to play backup games a chip is needed. Is this true. and if so where do I get one.

a chip is needed to play PSX backup!
See your local seller if he can do it! some sellers can do this but it will end your warranty

Thanks for the reply. Just one more thing. Generally what am I looking to have to pay to get a chip installed.

Well the chip costs around a £1.00 in it basic format.... the time it takes to program it, about 15 seconds and of course not forgetting the essential wire and solder... ummm maybe another 50p. Half an hour to fit a tops, then id guess at about £20 all in.

Spooky's costing policy was spot on. Figure out what it should cost, multiply that by a factor of 4, and you have a ball park figure. These guys can make an absolute killing, BUT the good ones do an excellent job, and they allow us to make backup copies to prevent ruining our originals.
Depending on your location can also effect how easy it is to get a modchip. I'm in Australia and about a month ago the laws changed, making it illegal to install modchips. Up until then it was totally legal, and your weekend papers would always have ads for modchips. No longer. I think the quality of chip installers will probably decrease, as the smart ones will sit on their easy made fortune and be thankful that it lasted as long as it did. There is always a risk in having a modchip installed.
