Which is the best modchip

I was wondering which is the best modchip to buy for the ###ne, also who sells it for the cheapest. I'm new to this and need to know if installing it is hard? Finally which is better to use to burn game cdrwin or cdclone and where can i get a free shareware of them?

Sorry but i cant give advice on where to get a mod chip for your ###ne as i program my own but needless to say you would be better off stearing clear of www.modchip.com as they have had alot of complaints of late.

Installing the chip isnt realy that difficult providing that you have some soldering experience or know someone who has, dont use a soldering iron over 18 watt's if you can help it, i have seen some real botch jobs in the past where a high wattage iron was used and components have been melted off the board. Also some of the joints are quite small so a steady hand is needed. And most importantly always use static precautions when handling the maind board.

CDRWin vs CDClone,
With CDClone you wont need to apply many patches infact you will only need to apply modchip protection patches and no a others. Clone actualy copies the PSX protection to the destination disc, and because of this modchip protection patches still need to be applied to the image file. Unfortunately you will need to create the image file with CDRWin. The other downside with CDClone is that it is not compatable with many writers, but if your is supported then give it ago and see how you get on.


CDRWin is the best when you need to apply a patch, the patches are written against "bin" image files that CDRWin create and the patch engine only looks for the "bin" image when applying the patch. Some people say that CDRWin was written for the purpose but i think that Golden Hawk would not agree.

CDRWin is really the only piece of software that you need (Plus of course the patch engine PPF-O-Matic)
