PS2 making backups

I have AR2 and modchip fitted neo2. SSX backup freezes during game play usually 2-3 downhill events. Discs are ok I'm fairly sure. copied using clonecd - fine also tried CDRWIN - fine. Some people apply patch-it but not sure why as this was for PSONE? some people apply the swap trick patch not sure why since this is for the ps2's with utility disk ie jap machines.
Which program do people use for PAL PS2 backups on PAL PS2's and what have they found is the correct boot sequence, (with or without codes, swap trick by holding down reset until the AR2 is booted then swap for backup).
When the game freezes I can insert my original and off it goes so it must be some checking but it does not always stop in same place.
Any help is good help. I have not fitted the capacitor yet but the lazer seems calibrated ok with no skipping or excessive clicking and it runs the backups fine until it freezes.

Go one someone give me some of your knowledge.

HI TOASTER
SSX IS AN E/A GAME
WHEN YOU GET A GAME THAT FREEZES,,ITS SIMPLE..JUST PRESS EJECT THEN EJECT AGAIN TO REINSERT DISK WAIT A FEW SECONDS THEN IT WILL LOAD FROM WHERE IT STOPPED PLAYING ONCE YOU DO THIS IT WONT FREEZE AGAIN IF IT DOESNT WORK FIRST TIME JUST TRY AGAIN UNTIL YOU HEAR CD DRIVE SPEEDING UP ..IT WORKS TRUST ME.SOUNDS CRAZY BUT THATS IT..YOU DONT NEED TO PATCH PS2 GAMES ONLY ON JAP WITH UTILITY DISK
GOOD LUCK M8

Hi, don't know if you two have seen my post to you so I'll duplicate it here. Thanks for the info topcat, worked great, but with the same problem as toaster. I found though that using two backups it will work. Just change the discs over when it freezes.

So just keep two backups handy!!

Very strange!
