what speed should i read/write discs at?

i read in here that you should only read and write at about 2x or 4x speed? is this correct?

if so why is that?

no you can read & write at max if you like but somtimes may not work on max speed so if you go at x2 & x4 the slower you go the better the copy (so some say) i read & write on max and all my copies are ok
