Tried my first patch, need help so that it won't be my last

I tried to "back-up" Cool Boarders 2001 and the game "rolls" making it impossible to play.

This how I did (or didn't do) it.
I used cdrwin to copy game to my HD. Downloaded the patch. Used pff-O-matic to patch. Then copied to disc.

Could my Memorex CDRs cause this "rolling"?

This also happened on smackdown it rolled on my psx but on version 9002 it played fine. my friend has a tele that is also ntsc compatible and it played ok on that one even using my early psx. It would seem that the beginning of the game was not correctly patched, but the game itself worked fine. this may be the same for cool B 2001?
