Can PSone play games without boot disc.
When the PSONE is chipped, up until now I used the 4 wire standard mod chip, I have noticed that nearly all games need to be booted with the boot disc first. Could this be because I have used Bootedit on the backups? replacing the std PSX logo with a funky design.
Or would the new 7 wire stealth multimode chip correct this? anyone throw some light on the subject. |

I don't know about 'bootleg' but I do know if you patch a game, no matter what you do you will not see what it has done, I believe games can be patched several times with no harm.
I put a mod chip in my PS1 useing the 4 wire set up and it plays all games. Check out www.ozchips.com.au, their 4 wire mods work with PS1's and they also have some new chips just manufactured(not on the web page yet) that will allow all backups without being patched on the PS1 |

www.Techtrix.com or co.uk
they do decent chips at reasonable prices in small No.s. I have only 4-wired my psones but I do applie p.p.f. .cue "PSONE" to all imports as an after thought to applying ntsc to pal first. If all has worked out then you can select pal or ntsc and it will play automatically wether import or not. Works quite a bit of the time. P.P.F's are friendly most of the time. |

I have a 6 wire mod chip on a PS-one, which is the same as a 7 wire on a traditional PSX. I have never needed a boot-disk to play a backup, only an import.
On a seven wire chip the 3 extra wires connect to the power switch, the reset switch and the door switch, injecting the correct code on activation. The PS-one only needs a 6 wire mod because there is no reset switch ! it is of course "combined" with the power switch. |
