PS2 Region Lock Remove

I have found out that the dvd drive used in the uk ps2 is the same as any drive found in a laptop. So after finding this i have come up with a way of hooking the drive up to my laptop and ive flashed the bios of the dvd drive. Now ive stuck it back in my ps2 and can play any region i like now, as the region is built into the drive not the onboard software. I am also going to see if it is possible to upgrade the other bits of ps2 like the playstation driver and cd driver and stuff. Maybe even change the main bios (version 30003) to see if this helps in any way to play backups. Anyone Interested in my findings feel free to contact me, or just post here and i will read.

if you want to try it on your german ps2 as i dont know if theyre the same inside or not. The way i did it was to take the ps2 appart making note of what went where, then took the drive out. For your laptop you will need an external drive bay to plug into your parallell port, while in windows (i used windows ME) you would look in device manager at what model of drive your ps2 has. then log onto the web page http://www.firmware.com.bi when here get the bios upgrade for the drive your ps2 is showing up as, make sure your in the laptop drive section. once downloaded you can run the program to update the drive, to find out which option on the program you should run read the readme file that come with the update. once the machine says finished, power down your laptop (dont press ctrl, alt and Delete) then power on again. once windows has loaded shut it down and put it back in your ps2. remember this will only help you play all region dvds. to change region put a dvd in and go to the dvd settings and change the region to whatever country the disk is from. i will be going into more detail when i upload it to my web site, but its taking time to convert the diagrams and pictures to good clear pics and easy to follow. it should be up within the week.
