Playstation 2 info needed!
I need the following info on Playstation 2 games and consoles, I know nothing so far.
Are the games on CD Rom or DVD Rom? Will it be possible to copy them? I have heard that a mod chip will be needed to play copied games, is this true and if so where are they available? I am grateful for any answers. Thanx Bigboy. |

The games are DVD format I believe. There are mod chips for sale on the net... do a search for Playstation 2 Mod Chips and you will get a list of sites... I read up on it and you also need the boot disc which is supposed to come with PS2 but doesn't... didn't come with mine anyway... it is for sale on sites too. Boot disc is required to play back-ups.

Thanx for the info, so how exactly are people going to make backups then? Aren't DVD Burners about £2k?

I have no idea... I have tried unsuccessfully since PS2 came out to find out how to back up games - I have 12 of them that I bought. No one has responded to any of my posts so I have no idea if or how to back them up.

PS2 games are on either CD or DVD depending on the game. So far, most games are on CD. These can be backed up fairly easily. You have to find the patch for the specific game you want to back up, then just make an image to your hard drive using CDRWin, apply the patch, then burn it.
However, you also need a mod chip and the original PS2 utility disc. As of right now, mod chips are only available for Jap PS2's and only Jap PS2's come with the utility disc. To play the backup, you insert the utility disc into your modded Jap PS2. It will eject in a few seconds, then take it out and insert the back up. Then it will play the back up. As for American PS2's, you will have to wait for a mod chip for the American PS2. But it will most likely work in the same manner. Since American PS2's don't come with a utility disc, you will have to use an original PS2 game to swap with instead of the utility disc. |
