Worthwhile getting a 'grey import'?

I am going on holiday to malaysia later this year and was wondering whether it would be worthwhile getting a PS2 out there or waiting for it to come out here (£60 more expensive). I also read that the Euro version will use hardware DVD decoders instead of the Asian software decoders.
Does anyone know of any other big differences between the two?
