Problems with my DC
Everytime I burn a game onto a CD-R and put it in my DC to play it keeps saying Please Insert Game Disc. The game may work fine the first couple of times but it will keep reseting in the middle of play. My Dreamcast was manufactured in March of 2000 if that will help any. Backups i have played are Crazy Taxi 2 and Stunt GP. But they have ####ted reseting in the middle of gameplay also. And now my DC wont recognize the Utopia Bootdisc like it did when i first ####ted using it. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

heh, let me rephrase what I was trying to say. I was in a rush typing it last time. What I meant was when I first burned Crazy-Taxi 2 and Stunt GP they worked fine, but after the first few times it ####ted not wanting to recognize the disc, and when it did pick up the disc and finally ####ted the game it would ####t reseting in the middle of gameplay. Now when I try to play them it wont pick up the disc. It says please insert Game Disc. I thought it may have been my cd's so I went out a bought a better but it gives me the same results.

I've seen this kind of problem before. Although mine hasn't ####ted doing this but i heard the problem was that you DC was overheating. someone told me to turn it up on its side with the vent side up and maybe put a box fan beside it. he claimed this worked for him but I dunno.....sounds half-baked if you ask me. But its worth a shot.

I'm the one who turned my DC on its side and set a box fan to blow on the bottom...
My problem wasn't the games resetting or coming up as "INSERT GAME DISC", but instead the games are locking up. I don't know if the problem he's getting is due to overheat or not, but it's worth a try. |

I'm not sure if your DC has the same problem as mine did but here's my experience. My DC used to stop reading any disc (originals or backups) or locks up after a couple of hours of playtime. I am definitely sure that it was overheating because after letting it rest for a while everything is ok again and the whole unit is pretty hot to the touch.
I solved my overheating problem by making a little fan box out of lexan plastic with a 486 fan and attached that on the vents at the back of the DC. Then, I reversed the direction of the little fan on the side - made it to suck air in instead of blowing out so it'll suck fresh cool air in and the back fan sucking the hot air out. Never had a problem with my DC locking up or not recognizing CDs after that little mod. The unit is now barely warm to the touch unlike before. You can actually buy a DC Cooling Fan unit at www.lik-sang.com for about $9US if you don't want to mess around with making your own solution but I believe it comes with a 220v adapter so if you live in 110v country then you might have to buy a new power adaptor for it. Hope that helps. Good luck! |
