The OrigaChip (JAP) is designed for your situation and will play the US (i.e.import) originals without swap.

I reckon you'll have to mail order it and have a pro solder the 15 wires.

Works for me.

I'm in a similar situation, so I'll just piggy-back on this topic. I have a SCPH 35000, Japanese; it came pre-modded, so I don't know what chip it uses, although I need to use AR2 as well. I cannot load a US original PS2 game.

My question is, can a new chip be installed if one is installed already? How would one go about finding a professional to solder it? Also, for those who do the soldering themselves ... was it difficult in the beginning (i.e. how likely is it that a newbie would simply ruin the console)?

Thank you.

There aren't too many on this forum with 35000 experience, I guess. But in all likelihood you are kitted with the modchip.com final version chip that works with AR2/GS2. It should also work with DVD Region X (although you can't play PAL DVDs).

The OrigaChip (JAP) will piggyback with the modchip.com chip (and I suspect all other 8 wire mods); indeed this is what I have and makes it very easy to boot DVD-Rs (see my eralier last week post). The OrigaChip will boot US import originals.
