So ya, doesn't work for me either. Tried it with DT Lite 4.304 and YASU 1.6... tried also with DT Pro 4.304... (sooooo, is YASU 1.6 the newest version? Couldn't find a newer one...)
I understand Egosoft's policy with stopping piracy at the start but... come on, all that could be pirated has already been pirated :P

Hi! I think I found a solution, it's strange but it works for me.
As usual, after having installed the game and the 2.1 patch, mount the image of the game in the virtual DVD player with daemon tools, then open it and go to: Data folder and double click on X3TC.exe. It may work.

One: there are no cracks for X3: Terran Conflict. So I don't know if he can try a crack....
Two: any fan of the Egosoft games is aware of their policy - Egosoft always removes through a patch the protection from their released games. Sure it takes time, but as Egosoft mentioned, the protection is there just to keep the 0day piracy at bay and to protect the initial sales. After an year or two (depends on vary things), the protection is removed by a patch released by Egosoft. The 2.1 patch was made to mainly add some nice mods done by the gaming community (Egosoft always supported their mod community and always introduced some of the best mods through packs and patches) and to tweak further the game. As there were many complaints with the 1.5 game, many of the fans of the game considering that the patch destroyed any chance for a faster paced game, patches 2.0 and 2.1 were cranked out, both patches being based on the community feedback. Also the US version got out relatively recently (end of April and that version was already updated at 2.0). So updating the protection to protect their sales in US makes perfect sense. I expect that at the end of this year or in first half of 2010 to see Egosoft removing the protection. If you read the official game forums, you will see the statements of Egosoft staff mentioning the protection removal later on in quite a few statements.

There is no need for YASU or any other tool, just recreate your image with latest DT Pro.

Actually after last night I realised the way of running the game that I described doesn't work...always.
It seems that it runs randomly, but around the 20th try. I tried restarting and cloaking with YASU, and sometimes the game starts, but not very often. So I am giving up on the Terran Conflict until a proper...lets say "tool" is released, or until the next patch, where hopefully TAGES will be removed.

EDIT: Update 06.07. - I got nerves of steel, so I'm playing the game. The way I start it - I spam the X3TC shortcut icon with the original img in the DT virtual drive and YASU running(dunno whether it's needed at all) until 10 or 20 instances of the .exe run simultaneously. Then I just start clicking "Ok" when the "Insert the original CD" error pops up and eventually - after 10-15 errors the game launcher starts. It can piss you off big time, but If you're so desperate to play X3TC that's the way to run it :P

!!!!!!! O_O... You my sir are totally insane... and it's scaring me... but I believe you have succesfully cracked the new TAGES I thank you!
So basically you just need to use the old method "try to click it untill it works", trully it might get quite annoying in the long run, especially if the game feels like crashing often, but then again it IS working so all is good.

PS: How the hell did you come up with that solution? (really, I'm very curious :P)

A day off work + girlfriend busy at work + boredom + thunderstorm outside.
You'd be surprised by the amount of usually-annoying-things that seem so interesting in such a day.

@Dytexx Actually yes, I do own the original game, the game DVD is inserted into my laptop. Sadly, my cousin borrowed the laptop(and with it the game DVD) while on a 2 month visit in Germany
