OK - I wore out the ICO subject
, so on to your S-Box problem .I installed the S-Box (+1 wire internal), and had a complete nightmare getting backup CD games to run on my system (S-Box won't run DVDR's). other people got them to run fine on their older models, but mine was ridiculously unreliable. I had to adjust the CD LASER (NOT THE DVD) pot, by following the instructions on PSXCOPYWORLD.COM This involved using a multimeter and stripping the PS2 down again, but now all is fine, and my games play 1st time (I have had to patch a few, but your problem sounds like a laser issue. (Saw an AD for a new USB mod chip that claims to calibrate the laser automatically - don't know if this is true???) I should point out that I find Good brand Green dye CDR's best, and burn at a SLOW speed for reliability on a newer PS2. (I read an article saying Sony adjust the laser so it just reads originals, and to make it difficult for the PS2 to read the less defined pits of a burned CDR. Best regards...kev1n

hey kevin...
You said you calibrated the cd lens right? I have tried this. I didnt read anywhere that you need a multimeter to do it. The one I read said you need a osciloscope. I didn't have access to one so I tried trial and error. After a couple hours I gave up. If I turned it too far it wouldn't even recognize originals. Please send me the link with the multimeter. Also, I dont understand why ICO works everytime if its a cd lens issue. I used to have Solderless mod and all these games worked fine. That modchip was even installed on a newer PS2 (version 5). So I'm skeptical that its my laser, but I'm willing to try anything. I know that the SBox doesnt play DVDR's but I'm only worried about playing CDRs. If you could, send me the link pointing to the page where it tells you how to fix the cd lens with a multimeter. Thanx again Kevin.

Well I am in the United States, so we have the Gameshark here. That is the equivalent of the Action Replay. I have about 12 PS2 games and only 2 work. I do not know why. Some say that my laser needs to be adjusted. If you have any tips please let me know. Also mention your boot process. Thanx

Here is a copy of a post I did before christmas: hope it helps.
![]() As you said, the best way to do this is with an oscilloscope, but to us poorer oiks, this is the next & only way to make sure you dont kill the PS2 laser. DO NOT TOUCH THE DVD Pot (THE ps2 has a combined CD/DVD laser in one unit, & the adjustments for each are separate - ONLY touch the CD pot!!! ![]() Set your multimeter to Resistance (Ohms). the laser potentiometer has three pins, one at the top, and two at the bottom. Connect one of the multimeter probes to the pin at the top of the laser pot, and the other to the bottom right pin of the laser pot. A new PS2 should read about 730 Ohms (as mine did yesterday!!) I turned the laser pot clockwise about 10 degrees (new reading is now ~600 Ohms (suggested by Adders). now spend the next hour putting the PS2 back together (mine was in some sort of armour plated stuff (SCPH 30003) and was a complete nightmare to strip down!. Hey presto - all is cool !!! Best Regards...Kev1n

Hey thanx a lot Kev, I will get right on that. I have a question though. Is the Playstation on or off when you are adjusting the laser? Thanx

Now THAT! is a good question!
(can't beleive no-one asked me that before) but thinking about it, I hope they all had their PS2's switched OFF before adjusting the laser.(no idea what the resistance would be if the unit was switched on????) (obviously if you use the oscilloscope method, you would need the unit very much switched on and dancing) Best regards...kev1n~
