Can SD2 be played on other drives using the PX 241040A?

I heard with the older models of Plextor, that you can only play SD2 backups on the Plextor and no other drives. Is this true for the PX 241040A? What I mean is if I backup an SD2 on a PX 241040A, will it play on my CD-ROM? Also, if I were to get the PX 241040A, would I have to Flash-back my firmware to do this? Any insight would be appreciated.
