Not Playing Anymore

Can anyone help,
I've got ps2 with messiah chip fitted,its working great with my dvd backups(AO3 Primo dvd).The problem I have is it's stopped playing my ps1 backups,just asks for a disc to be inserted.Could it be a laser problem???Psi backed up using clony xl and clone cd,it was working great till last week.

Could be anything from dirty disk, through dirty lens, through poor media/scratched. Do PS2 CD-Rs work? If so laser isn't the problem. Might just be laser weakening slightly with poor PS1 backup media.

Could be anything in whole/part or combination!!

It plays all ps2 backups,just cleaned the lens and still no change,any ideas????

Also there is updated firmware for ao3,is it worth getting or should i keep on 1:68???
