Soldier of Fortune 2 and Open GL issues!

Hey guys.
Unfortunately having the same problem with Soldier of Fortune 2 - Double Helix. I was aware that the problem may be to do with the video card drivers - and having just upgraded to XP, i found it was using the default XP drivers.

so i went to the Nvidia site, and went to the drivers section (http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=drivers) and subsequently dloaded the "Detonator XP" driver for XP/2000.

It installed successfully, but the problem remains, and each time i try to enter the game it reports open GL errors of some description.

Can someone help me out please!?

I have a Nvidia Riva TNT2 32 MB Video Card at the mom.
Running Win XP Pro OS on a 550 Mhz System.

Just to let ya know - I have the same card and am able to run SOF2 on XP
Try using Windows Update - goto Tools in IE and then click Windows Update. Update all of the things especially if there's stuff in the drivers section.

GH is right, but if that dosent help, win 98 runs it very well, i only have a ATI Rage128 Pro, crap, but runs the game fast. Try Win98 if nothing else works.

Soldier of Fortune 2 and Open GL problems part 2

Well there does appear to be some light at the end of the tunnel.

If for no other reason than to just help people out who may be going throught the same ordeal, i'll document this as best I can while im having the probs.

Unfortunately Win98 isnt an option for me as im already running a dual OS with Linux (and secondly thats a lot of effort when i havent exhausted all my options yet).
I installed and got MOHAA running successfully tonight, a (brilliant) game that also had issues with my current configuration prior to me upgrading the driver situation for that card (if you're wondering which card see my post above).

This makes me wonder whether i need to uninstall SOF2 - Double Helix and reinstall it (to let it have another think about the configuration that is now on my PC). Someone feel free to set me straight on this if i'm talking total crap.

Either way, i made the driver changes while the game was installed, so that'll be my next point of testing.

Will let you know if i manage to break this issue at any time.

if you have an nvidia card, just download and install the detonator drivers.
worked with me (I use winXP)
You can find them on the nvidia homepage

Final Open GL Solution

Well problem solved.
As you gus may have well expected, the problem did lie in the drivers of my video card, and thanks to Nvidia.com and the new "Detonator Drivers" - those problems were quickly rectified.

But the point of all this was that my suspicions about having to uninstall and reinstall the game did prove correct. A weird phenomenon on the part of SOF2 meant that it was unable to recognise the changed drivers, and as a result - had to be reinstalled.

The game now works fine.....but compared to MOHAA, anything seems dull !?

This is the final chapter in the Open GL issues. For all those who thought that they no longer existed, I assure you they do, and for those just seekng an answer to another PC problem, like me, I hope this has helped!

Thanks to all those that helped.

Just to add something about those Nvida Drivers. v29.42, which at this time are the 'latest official' drivers, are buggy as hell. If u can try, and download the slightly older v23.11, they are alot more stable.

And there will never be a Final Chapter in Open GL problems. Not if ID Software and its Engine License's have anything to do with it.

sof2 has major SP glitch probs, as evident by the large no. users posting issues regarding the FPS drops experienced. Sof2 patch v1.01 was released, which helped some of the users, but not all.

To check for correct installation, can download an exe from raven called "wiser.exe". Takes a while to run, but is v.good!

For the best info regarding sof2 probs, check out the first search result of a Google search for "ravensoft forums double", then click on forums link! (Not sure if i could post URL's).

Repa,
