Angry GTA3. Is it the game or the crack that is in the wrong?

I have a backup of GTA3. It is not a perfect 1:1 copy therfore you need to apply a crack to play. When you attempt to play the game without the cd you get the usual error message.

When you apply the crack and then try to play the egg timer comes up for about 2 seconds, then goes away, and nothing more happens. The game refuses to open.

So I want to know is if it is the files in the game that are not working or is it the actual crack? Has there possibly been a small error in the reading or writting to the cd?

Please help me as it is really annoying!

I didn't have this problem at all.. I only had that issue with XP & Nvidia rendering in dx 8.1.. though.. thru trial and error I did run into some errors.. if you PM me with some further detail about your copy maybe I can advise further.

*Edit!

ROFL! No PM's! Hahahahahah. Scratch that idea - I'll make my email public though
