A Good CD-Writer?!?!?!?!
Hey,
At the moment Im using the HP 8100i CD Writer so I am in DIRE NEED of a new CD-Writer drive as all it seems good for is making coasters now, I've been looking at gamecopyworld.com and have come across some features a CD Writer must have nowadays it seems. For instance, being able to overburn or make oversized CD's and being able to fully support 80min media etc. Gamecopyworld.com seem to think that the best IDE drive to go for is the PLEXTOR 12/10/32A (burn proof, internal) drive. Now while shopping around I noticed that there is a newer model, the PLEXTOR 16/10/40 burn proof internal drive. Can anyone tell me whether this drive supports overburning, and if it is a good drive to get? Also if anyone has any recommendations of OTHER drives to get im all for it, keeping in mind my budget is £190 (probably around $250, i dunno my exchange rates arent too great), and that I need a reason why the drive is good. I know this was a rather long message to post and most of you probably didnt read it down this far, but if you did and can be of any help then I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks |

Don't buy neither PX-1210A nor PX-1610A. PX-1210A is a bit too old now while there have been many faulty PX-1610As on the other hand. In August, there will be PX-2410A but, wait for reviews. BTW, PX-2410A supports SD2 according to CloneCD author. I hope I helped you.

The gcw buying a cdrw/ the best cdrw is out of date!!!!
what do you want to use the writer for mainly... backing up protected games audio cds storing data????? i always felt that plextor is just too expensive for what it provides. although its popular as being the BMW of the cdrw world. if you want a drive for legitimate backup of non protected stuff the ricoh is a reliable brand if you want to be able to copy all protections on the market then get a new acer 1208a 1610a 2010a etc and above (although you will need a cdrom/dvd that can read subchannel data for backups that contain subchannel data ie securerom) |

TonyG is right. The only problem with Acers are Subchannel Data. They are cheap though so I thin k you can afford to buy a CD-ROM able to do Subchannel. Here is a link to review the 1208: ####://ww.cdr-info.com
