Question PSXChange Boot MOD Disk

Thank you Game Forum creators for a fantastic site. I have two questions, which I hope someone can help me:

1: I recently purchased a PSOne unit and thought I would try using the PSXChange Boot MOD disk before I crack the case on it. I am not having much luck with the Boot disk. Has ANYONE ever heard of ANYONE having any success with this Boot MOD disk?

2: How can one tell if the burned import is successful besides running the unit in a MOD ps-unit? If one is able to place the import CD into PC and have the PC read it as if it were the original, is this a "true test" of its success?

Any insight at all would be much appreciated.

I have emailed PSXchange twice and they have not been much help...which makes me think I was screwed $20...oh well...

I use the PSX Change2 Boot Disc on my PS Console and I have never had any problems reading successfully burned games or originals. Where did you get the disk? Did yours come with the spring or the cardboard tab to install? Maybe that is the problem.....

I bought the Boot Disk from ModChipInc, USA (directly) and use the cardboard strip. The boot disk loads fine and informs me to replace the Boot Disk with the import and press start. Once I do this, the import disk just spins and spins. I use Nero 5.5 and setup the configuration as suggested by a reliable website (do not have it on me right now). It appears to copy the CD successfully, and I can read it in my PC as if it were the original, however, they never work. Any suggestions?

How do you check a successful import CD without a working MOD?

Thanks, by the way!

A couple of other things?? Are you using NTSC or PAL? What games have you tried to burn? I'm not familiar with Nero, I only use CDRWIN and CDClone. As far as I know, you can't play burned games without a modchip. I have only used NTSC games, so I'm not familiar with PAL, but from what I understand, you need a stealth chip to play PAL games on a NTSC console and Vice Versa.

****If I'm incorrect, please correct me..******

Hi m8ty
I totally agree with the above posts, cdclone or cdrwin is the way to go for backing up psx games.
the problem with nero is that in does not support reading sub-channel data from tracks which is a feature of the psx protection.
Use cdclone to make 1:1 back ups and check on the megagames site to see if any of the games you are trying to back up are mod-chip protected, that's when cdrwin and 'patching games comes in'.
Get a program called clonyxxl from www.cnet.com , it detects the protection on a disc and then you start up clone from there and it passes on the settings needed to clone.

Firstly check www.elaborate-bytes.com (the clone website) to check for compaterbility to your reader and re-writer.

Hopes this helps

use these clonecd settings and if your hardware is 100% compatable you should not have a problem. and you can play pal games on a ntsc system or vise versa with out a stealth mod chip all you have to do is apply a pal-2-ntsc or vise versa patch.

try these clonecd settings

create a cd image using clone cd with these settings.

set read speed to 1 0r 2x
select read subchanel data from data tracks
select read subchanel data from audio tracks
select abort on read errors
every thing else should be grayed out

to burn image to cd

set write speed 1 or 2x
select RAW DAO
select dont repair subchannel data
unselect simulate writing (if available)
select burn proof/just link (if available)
unselect perform laser power calibration(if available)
unselect wait until buffers are full (if available)
select always close last session

happy playing

Thank you all for your expert advice. I WILL try the Clone CD. I had it before, but could never get a solid successful burn from it, so I dumped it. I will follow the link and the advice from both of you and let you know how it goes.

Your posts have raised further questions and concerns which I had not thought of:

1) Obviously I can not simply burn my PS games and slap them into the PSXchanger and go...there will be more to it and each game is different?

2) I can get software to help patch problems...and so the quest continues.

I will be back...many times...I am sure...thanks again and what a great forum!

What game are you trying ? Try another. I know that psxchange has trouble with ea games and you must use a anti mod disk also. I had trouble with harry potter. Just a black screen but with a anti mod It runs fine.

Again, thank you all for your responses…they have been very helpful toward educating me in the Dark Art of PS Importing. However, my problems are still occurring. Let me answer some questions that were fired at me:

KIDXTC: I use only NTSC|U/C playstation games. The games I have tried to import are Spiderman (1), Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot Warped, and Harry Potter. I have, of course, many more games, but thought if I could not get one of these four to work, why continue?

OURKID: I dumped my NERO and downloaded CLONECD 4.0. I tried using this on Crash Bandicoot and still the same thing happens as described in my original post. Also, I downloaded CLONYXXL and it is ALWAYS in German, do you or does anyone know where I can get an English version of this software? I have checked my hardware and am compatible according to CLONECD’s webiste (SONY CDRW CRX700E and Toshiba DVD). I have tried direct copy from the DVD to the CDRW and also just from the CDRW to the CDRW (taking CD’s out when asked).

BUZZON: Thanks for the settings! I tried all of this in CLONECD 4.0 with Spiderman (1) and still the imported CD just spins and spins as I posted originally. It should not be this hard?

KNARF: Take a look at my response to KIDXTC for the list I have tried. I only have been using the NTSC|U/C playstation games…none are EA. You mention ANTI MOD and it runs fine…excuse me for just getting involved with MOD, but this is a chip you soldered in or something? Or just patched your burn somehow?

Thank you all for being so much help. I will conquer this quest I am on…if it can be done, I will eventually do it. Any additional help would be appreciated. Does anyone know if hacked versions of burning software could make the difference?

PS...I should not be able to close my PSOne door after installing the cardboard sticker thing, right?

What type of media are you using? I personally use Verbatim, it is very good media.
You are using the term "Imported", are you buying games from other countries or are the strictly American games - NTSC-U/C?
If you are using games from other countries, you my have to patch the copy with a PAL to NTSC patch for each games.
You should be able to close your lid after you install the tab. You can also leave the lid open when you play burned or original games.
Give us more specifics: What type games (NTSC-U/C)?
What type media you burn to?
Also, make sure that the originals that you are using aren't all scratched and smugged up. The originals need to be as clean and smooth as you can find them. I was having the same problems with Syphon Filter 3, It was a rented game and probably just so messed up, it wouldn't copy correctly. Good Luck.

KIDXTC: I use FujiFilm CD-R-700MB. They seem to be a very good medium for Music and other software, but maybe not for PS backup. I use the term “Imported” because this is what the PSXChange software uses…I am correct in assuming this is their nice way of saying “burned?”

Since you run a PSXChange, can you describe exactly your procedure for running your Boot Disk? Perhaps I accidentally purchased some crazy “import game” only Boot CD. But I think they are saying IMPORT when they mean BURNED.

I am using ONLY American games (National Television Systems Committee).

With my cardboard tab, I thought it blocked the hole where the lid closes, therefore I COULD NOT close the lid without simply placing something on top of it. I simply pushed a little harder and VIOLA! It closes fine…THANKS!

Some of my CD’s are a little scratched, but I have tried even the smoothest (new) CD’s and still no luck.

And I found the LIST for protected games finally…for anyone wanting that URL its:

http://www.megagames.com/psx/psx_pro...games_us.shtml

This is for PSONE only and also for US-NTSC games. The others should be easy to find from there!

If you install the sticker correctly it closes just fine, the diagram that comes with it does a terrible job of showing where it does thou. The strip that juts out goes into the hole but the edge should be at the edge of the slot (where the lid catch goes into the system is a sqaure) the edge at the back of the tab should be against the edge pointing into the center of the disk drive and not up against the outside of the disk drive oval.

Crap! You are right! I did not read the instructions like that at all, and ended up placing my tab right against the edge of the circular diameter. I think I will move it in closer to the center as you show in your pic? Do you think this is wise?

This is why my door was jamming, I had too much of it over the hole...great pic by the way...it really explains it all...maybe MODCHIPINC should invest in something like that!

Not nessecarily, once the tab is attached and removed it's hard to get it to stick and stay a second time.
