Help with copying Crash Team Racing required!!!

I'm new to this and have read several tutorials but am still confused.

1. Using CDRWin (Vers 3.9A) I have copied from the original disc a file called ctr.cue into a directory using Extract Disc/Tracks/Sectors.
All default values used.

2. Have been to megagames and found several patches. Because the initial screen in the program says Sony Computer Entertainment Europe I think I have a choice of 2 patches. One is 3kB in size, the other 327kB???? I copied BOTH to my folder and unzipped both files. At the dos prompt I tried to use "applyppf ctr.cue ptx_ctrc.ppf" (ppf file from 327kB download). The following error message appears - "This is NO PPF-Patchfile". So i tried again with "applyppf ctr.cue bs-ctr.ppf" (ppf file from the 3kB download). This appears to do something. ctr.cue has been touched because its modification date has changed. Applyppf is Vers 1.0.

3. I now re-run CRDWin and use Record Disc to copy ctr.cue to a new CD. However when I select my cue sheet I get the following error - "Invalid cuesheet command at line 38. Illegal cuesheet command syntax."

4. I have a Creative 8439E (not supported by CloneCD) running under XP Professional.

5. I have PPF-O-Matic but it asks for a "bin" file?

6. Unprotected games have worked fine so far (Crash 1,2,3).

7. So ------ a) which patch file do I want? Is it determined by the game or by my PS1 console. Im in Oz so does that mean the PAL ones all the time? And if there's a choice between 2 then which one?

b) what am I doing wrong.

Thanx for your help!!!!
