problems neo 2.2

Does anyone ever had a problem with his neo 2.2 chip??

wanna have mine modified but want to hear your stories first

Whilst I hope you get dozens of replies, know from me (Arakon will be on about it too), the NEO2.2 fries lasers and should be avoided or if it MUST be used, have the circuitry protected by a Capacitor and Resistor at Pin 2 (SCEX)

My personal machine is a neo 2.2. Gets absolutly hammered by family and mates and is absoultely fine.
Modded quite a few 2.2's myself and never had 1 back yet. Just make sure that you have a capacitor on the chip as charlie stated.

Well I have installed quite few 2.2 and have not had any lazer problems at all. Just make sure the cap is on correctly. Otherwise you will burn the lazer out. Just my 2cents worth. However one these days I plan on doing a Messiah mod! If I can get a bud to buy 2 I would install his for the extra chip.

Search for the details under user name Arakon (last November I think it was). He specifies which capacitor, which resistor.

As I've kept clear of Neo2.x I've only checked out the science not the detail.

Hi,

Ive had a NEO2.2 modded ps2 for almost a year now and even though i dont boot it that much these days it did used to get a right hammering and it still boots backups fine. Make sure you add the Cap and take your time doing the install.

What version ps2 have u got??

If i was going to put a new chip in ild go for a next gen chip ie Messiah the NEO 2.2 is a little out of date these days but you cant take its realibilty and quality away from the old boy.

Hi,

You wont have any problems installing a NEO2.2 chip in that version ps2. But for a little extra cash u could have a Messiah fitted and to be honest the swapping of the boot cd for a backup does get on your nerves. I reckon ill be upgrading to a Messiah soon. (when i get my arse in gear)
