Memorex CRW-2642....no 80 min cdr?

I've had this cd burner for about 2.5 years. Always used 74 min. cd-r media. I got a whole bunch of Comp-Usa 80 min cd-r, and can not get any of them to burn. I've tried MusicMatch, Nero, Feurio, and the rest, all with the same result: a shiny new coaster. With all conditions being equal, a 74 min will burn fine, an 80 min will not. Is my cd-r burner incapable of handling this media, or am I just losing it?
