cdr type

Could someone explain to me what the type means with cdrs and what the difference is between different ones?

I used a cdr today that feurio said was type 1. Yesterday with a different brand it said they were type 4. The first one is by one of the companies in Japan listed as good and the second is by one of the medium companies. But is the type more important than the manufacturer? They are both data 80 min cds but i use them for music.

Just have to say that now I am even more confused. I just opened a pack of Maxell audio cdrs and although the top of the cd is different feurio gives the same id as for the first TDK data that I mentioned: taiyo yuden type 1.

Does this mean that there really is no difference between the audio and data disk put out by TY? And is that what type 1 means?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
