Question Which to buy??

I have a Philips PCRW1208 writer which doesn't support reading subchannel etc. I can't make a good working 1:1 copy of a 2.51 safedisc.

Now is the question:
Do I need a new reader (like a Toshiba DVD) and/or a new writer(like a Plextor)

Could somebody give me some advise??

I'd get a new writer like a Lite-on as this will do both reading and writing perfectly.

Warlock is on a distinguished road
If your burner can write RAW-DAO-96 but not read then you could use a toshiba dvd rom as the reader (most will read RAW-DAO-96) but if not get a new writer that will both read and write sub channel data. The new lite-on is a good choice

i hate to sound like an asshole, but subchannel data is NOT why you cant read/write safedisc 2.51.020 and 2.51.021. of course, i'm pretty sure it cant do that, either, without betablocker or AWS.
