select without codes, then when it asks for the game, hold down the eject button, make sure you hold it down, untile it opens then get the game in quick cause it'll close automatically in like 5 secs, it works just spiffy for me

Also...what kind of CD-R did you use. I know some people here say that it doesnt matter, but I tried 9 or 10 different CD-R's before figuring out that 74 min. Verbatim CD-R's are the only ones that work for me.

Remember when you eject the Game Shark CD then turn on the no solder mod (if its the same as the Sbox) replavce GS with the game CD and choose to start the game without codes. Timing of turning on the Sbox appears to be very important i.e with the media tray open.

I am sure you have figured this problem out by now, but in case anybody else is having problems: The no solder mod, to activate the mod chip, you have to HOLD IN THE EJECT BUTTON until it ejects on it's own. You then have 5 seconds to replace the gameshard cd with your backup. If the color of the power light does not change from green to orange when you eject the cd, it didn't work right.

one very easy thing which this could be is that the no solder mod chips do not support 80 minute cdrs. even if the disc is only 600 meg if you burn it on a 80 minute cdr they don't work

try a 74 min disc and let me know how u get on.

Hi Gmrunner, If the reset turns from green to orange and ejects the tray for about 5 sec then closes by itself the the mod is working properly. The problem may be the crap media you are using. Some PS2's can be fussy when it comes to media. Anyway here is the only working dvd-r boot method i know of using a GS2 v2x along with the no-solder mod. Hopefully this will help.Load GS2, Once it completely loads press eject and swap with a original dvd game.(i use DMC demo). Wait about 30 sec and select gameshark codes, choose any game and turn on or off any code. Then press start, select with codes and press x to load game, you will see a black screen that says updating codes please wait. Immediately do the r-mod swap by pressing and holding eject until the tray ejects, swap the original dvd game with the dvd-r backup, the tray will close after 5 sec and the backup will load.

As far as booting off of 80 minute cds even if they are under 600 megs, this is not true. I have a no solder chip and burn exclusively on 80 minute cds and it works fine when those cds are less than 74 minutes in length.

I have a NTSC 30001r v5 PS2. I use a lik-sang no solder mod along with GS2 v2.01. I use DMC demo for dvd-r boot disc. All compact disc games are backed up to verbatim 80min cd-r's. All dvd games are backed up to Memorex dvd-r's. So far all my backups boot and play perfect.
