Cheat Disc swap trick

Does anyone know if you are able to use the cheat discs to play copied games. I remember you could do this on PS1. Thanks...

If you mean on its own as a bootdisc then no. You still need a modchip.

in order for that to work on PSX, you had to swap the discs without the PSX knowing you opened the lid (the button had to be pushed down all the time). now look at the PS2 and think about it.

and you have to hold down the reset button while the dvd region x loads. it then spits out the disc and you put in your backup.

I know what the guy means.
The cheat discs are just ripped-up versions of the AR/GS, so it *should* in theory work.

Might give that a try...my RegionX won't play PSX backups, and a cheat disc is less then a AR/GS...

Depends what is meant by "Cheat Disc"....

I use the "swap trick" all the time with AR2v2 - NO MOD CHIP AT ALL.

I have (carefully) removed the tray front (with the PS logo on) by unclipping from underneath (carefull - they break really easily).

I use Action Replay2 V2 to boot, select Start Game>Without Codes. It takes you to a screen that says "Insert CD then press X"

At this point I use a 1cm (wide) strip of credit card, poke it underneath the tray in the centre, and firmly slide it to the right hand side. Inside there is a white pin (you can see it if you lift the tray slightly when open). This controls the mechanism. When slid to the far right, the tray ejects enough to grab and pull out. DO NOT PRESS EJECT BUTTON as this will not work.

Insert your CDR backup, then slide tray in fairly firmly (NOT USING EJECT BUTTON). Then insert plastic strip on the right hand side and slide firmly to the left. The white pin slides back into place.

Then press X and everthing should work fine.

When you press the Eject button, the table of contents are wiped out. The Neo chips (i believe) stop the TOC being wiped, but with a little practice you can play backups AND keep your warranty!!

easier to get a modchip (messiah from charlie or dust) and save knackering your machine.

Chips

I don't like the idea of swapping and stuff. Messiah sounds like the ultimate, but its too expensive, is there an cheap alternative .

Without a Messiah you need to buy
£30 Action Replay
£30 Devil may cry Original game to boot from
£20 Mod chip

So you have to spend £80 for another mod chip
and then Bu@£er around trying to boot them

Is Messiah really that expensive???
So the actual messiah chip is not that expensive considering what you would need for other mods.

The installation is what bumps the price up somewhat:
1) You could try and install the messiah on your own - this is very difficult
2) You could pay somebody with minimal soldering skills to perform the install - chances are they will do a bodge job and mess up your machine
3) You could get an expert (like charlies mate around the corner) to perform the install - for superb results and no problems.

It's up to you, but remember - you get what you pay for.

The Messiah is the daddy of mod-chips.
