DVD Backups

Hi all,

I apolgise in advance if this has already been answered or is in the wrong forum.

I am trying to back up my DVD collection, but all my dvds are too big to fit on a dvd-r, how can i reduce the size of the files, i have ripped the dvd onto my hard drive (movie files only), i am not bothered about digital sound. I just want to reduce the size of the files to fit onto DVD-r.

The files that are on my hard drive are .vob is there some software out there that will change a .vob file into a smaller .vob file, by removing some sound and maybe some picture quality.

All the software i have tried converts it into .avi, which is fine for my computer but i want to be able to play back my back ups on my tv.

Also just for clarification, what are .vob and .ifo, as lots of the trheads talk about ifoedit, but i have got any .ifo's from my ripped dvd?

I have also noticed that it is possible to copy dvd onto 2dvd-r's but this isnt really what im looking for, i rather be able to have it on one disc with a little less quality.

Thanks,
Dan

if you want it on one disk it will have to be a vcd and to do this either go to vcdhelp.com or download dup-dvd

Use Ifo Edit to strip down the movie and remove any unwanted extras. Then use Rempeg2 to transcode the video stream to make it smaller and Ifo edit to remux it back into the VOBS. Or use CCE (Better Quality and speed) to rencode the main movie and reauthor back to DVD-R.
