Will the No Solder V5 boot DVD-R backups???

I have made several backups of My Tekken 4 import, and I cant get any of the copies to work at all. 4 DVD-R's, all seem to have perfect Images, but none will boot using any of the booting methods. I used the DVD-R's that I was tols work, and I got Primo to work, and burned it eaxtly as told.

I used TDK DVD-R for the last one I burned, and still nothing.... Is there a boot method that works? Will My chip even play DVD-R backups?

I read that the No Solder R version 5 did just fine for DVD-R's, then I read it didnt boot anything over 640mb... Which is it? Did I do something wrong?

Yes they can.
Have you tried using this method

HOW TO BOOT DVDR BACKUPS WITH AR2V2 and PS2 No-Solder R-Mod
1. Put the dongle into slot 2.
2. Load the AR2v2 disk.
3. At the main screen press "Eject".
4. Swap the AR2v2 disk for a BIG DVDrom ORIGINAL
(It must be bigger than the DVDr you want to load).
5. Select "CODES".
6. Select "DAVE MIRRA".
7. Press "X" to choose the cheat.
EVERY CHEAT SHOULD BE ACTIVE.
8. Press "Start".
9. Select "Start game WITH codes".
10. Press "X".
A message will say "Too many codes active".
The DVD original will now stop spinning.
11. Now hold eject till the disk comes out, and swap with your backup DVD
the disc will go back in after 5 seconds.
12. Press "X".
You will be taken back to the "CODES" screen.
13. Press "Start".
14. Select "Start game WITHOUT codes".
15. Press "X".
The DVDr backup will now boot.

The next time you boot a DVDr (as long as you havent selected a different cheat code)
you can miss out sections 5,6 & 7.

I tried that method as well, but nothing. After the too many codes screen, I hold it, replace it, it closes, I hit X, and nothing... it's locked at the too many codes screen....

Ok, how about this 1

(1) Boot AR2/GS2 disc 1.
(2) At the main screen (picture 1), press the EJECT button to eject the CD tray.
(3) Replace the AR2/GS2 disc with an original PS2 DVD game, such as Dead or Alive 2.
(4) Close the CD tray (press EJECT again) and wait for about 30 seconds.
(5) Select START GAME (picture 2) and then select WITHOUT CODES (picture 3).
(6) Once the AR2/GS2 is asking to change the game disc (picture 4), press the EJECT button till the light changes from green to orange.
(7) The CD tray will now open and you can replace the DVD game with your backup copy.
(8) The CD tray will automatically close after about 5 seconds.
(9) Wait till the the power LED changes from orange to green again and press X now to start the game.

There is a "play fix" patch and a EA patch at http://www.megagames.com/ps2/ps2_patches_t.shtml
Its worth a look.

I dont know about the AR2 but this boot method works for me using GS2 v2x.Load GS2, After it completely loads swap with hi TOC dvd original.Wait about 30 sec, then select gameshark codes, choose a game and turn on or off any code. Then press start, select with codes and press x to load game, a black screen should appear saying updating codes please wait. When you see this press and hold eject until tray opens and swap original with dvd-r backup, you have about 5 sec, tray will close and game will boot.

ar2/gs2 v2.03, v2.1, v2.11

WILL NOT BOOT DVDr (no matter who tells you different)
this option has been removed from all new versions

you need
AR2/gs2 V1.7 to v2.02 to boot dvdr
and these are no longer made

tough luck m8

lots of modchip sellers are desperatly telling everyone
they can still boot dvdr.....but they can't
its messiah or nothing

version of boot cd is written on underside
on blue ring around hole in centre

at no time have you said what release of boot cd ur using
look at underside of gs boot cd, printed in blue ring
in center is version number!

Nightstalker
you don't appear to be able to READ properly

when i write v1.7 to v2.02
that means all releases between and including those
as fa as I know
v2.01 is below v2.02 and so will boot dvdr properly

DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

Chow yun fat, I have a US v5 with a lik-sang no solder mod. I have GS2 v 1.93, 2.01 and 2.03. ALL WILL BOOT DVD-R with this mod.pjclark1, I read just fine, If YOU had read the info in his signature you would have seen he uses the GS2 v2. I am not going to get into a flaming contest with you or anything like that however i do think you got your facts mixed up as far as dvd-r booting using GS2 v2x

Load GS2, Once it completely loads press eject and swap with a original dvd game.(i use DMC demo). Wait about 30 sec and select gameshark codes, choose any game and turn on or off any code. Then press start, select with codes and press x to load game, you will see a black screen that says updating codes please wait. Immediately do the r-mod swap by pressing and holding eject until the tray ejects, swap the original dvd game with the dvd-r backup, the tray will close after 5 sec and the backup will load.I am assuming you have a quality dvd-r backup.(not a dvdrip). If this doesnt solve the problem i would suggest you borrow a dvd-r backup(if possible) from a friend thats proven to work. The above boot method loads dvd-r backups EVERY time for me.

This was posted by "villasgeo" in a different forum

To all of you that trying the dave mirra trick with the new AR2 V2.1 (new v) and it Doesn’t work .
I will explain what I done:
1. create a new entry in the code list and call this game code "DVD-R"
2. create an empty code entry in this "DVD-R" game code and call this entry "dummy-code"
3. Boot the ps2 with the AR2, then swap (just regular eject) the AR2 disc with a DVD original larger then the DVDR you trying to boot and wait 20 sec.
4. chose AR codes from the main menu and turn on or off this "dummy-code" before you start the game .
5. chose start game-with codes and press X then it says updating code list and in this exact time press the eject for 2 sec for open the tray with the r-mod chip and swap the original DVD with the DVD-r.
Good luck
