Help Sony DVD player

Hi, I was told that you can get a disk to put in a home DVD player that will allow you to watch out of region films.

Is this true and if so where can i download it, my player is a Sony.

the only sony dvd player that i know of that can do that is the playstation 2 with the ar 2/gs or region x(original DVD disc),other than that iv'e heard that you can watch the USA movies on a NTSC play back DVD,most DVD players play cd-r,etc,etc, i know it can be time consuming(DVD ripping),but i'm led to believe any region will play that way
