Moto Racer 3 - Tages

O.K. I bought the game to see if it really is the mother of all copy protection schemes. And it is. What I dont get though is that

1) All information on a cd is either a 1 or 0.
2) All cd writers can write 1's and 0's.
3) I have read before that protections use a glass master to stamp a verication mark on the cd which can be read but not written. However as this mark has to written in binary CloneCD never had too much trouble.

According to some posts about Tages it too involves a stamp in the mastering process. So why can Clonecd not copy this protection? It doesn't have any bad sectors like safedisc! It doesn't seem to try and confuse the EMF like Safedisc V2 and it doesn't seem to try and read the ATIP.

So my question is ........ How does this protection actually work?

Is it possible it can measure the reflectivness of the media?

If every single 1 and 0 from the origional is present on the copy I cannot see how it knows its a copy.

please help as I'm 10 coasters down and counting !!!!!!

it uses a software and hardware mixed protection.

That much i know but what exactly is the hardware part??? how does it work??? Surely if the information can be read by my my Litey then it can be written for after all they are only bits of binary information. Just plain old 1's and 0's.

Read the doc ECMA-130.PDF at www.ecma.ch and you will see that a cd not only contains ZEROs and ONEs. BTW: Throw your Litey away ;-)

OK. I read the document and still am not convinced. It states that any area of the disc not altered in any way shall be read as a Zero and any pit shall be recorded as a One. I must have missed the part about differen't values. Does Tages use these other values and if so will anything ever be able to copy it ??? I'm sure Ollie will come up with a way. C'mon Ollie show us what youre made of !!!!! LOL

and it cant be that impossible if it was cracked just a couple of days after it was released..

The game has been out for several days and protected by a new protection "Tages." We bring you the first fully-cracked release under this new protection. Follow the installation note below and enjoy another great release

by FAiRLiGHT.

this was taken from clone cd forums

It may be relatively "easy" to crack, but not easy to clone - if at all.

tages uses a special media where the reader will read different values depending on the angle of the laser at a certain section of the disc. at least, this is the best that i've understood it @ this moment. after multiple reads, some part of the software checks to see if the values are correct, and if they arent, motoracer 3 demo for you

Hi all, Tagès( as said above) use the reflective properties of every cd to work.it is true that data into a cd is stored into 1s and zeros, but sometimes you can not read them correctly because they are "hidden".As tagès is a very expensive anty-copy i think it will not appear as much as safedisc does.Motoracer is a "test" of this and it not works as desided. It seems the original fails with certain drives...so it isn't a good choice for games release. The way tagès uses the binary data is like the opposite to safedisc. EFM encoding will help for this very known protection but will not work with tagès.It seems too that EFM only damage certain sectors with tagès.For further info about read about efm encoding ( Eight to fourteen )The way chains of 1 and 0s are stored is very important.

Good luck!
