some advice please!!

If I use the flash software to make my liteon ltd 163d dvd rom region free will it alter the GHR3 firmware that it already has or will it work along with it?....the instructions are very vague and I am not sure what to do, it says I can switch the region off altogether (rcp 1)......if I reformat will I need to do it again or does it write to the rom chip?? I am not a newby but this is a new thing to me (never had a dvd before) thanks for any help.......dave
