Please Help a NEWBIE!

I am a complete newbie, and i need some help. I live in the US and own a ps2 model SCPH-30001 date code 0D. I wanna get a modchip and was wondering what i should get. I've been hearing about this "messiah" and it seems pretty good. Is it availible in the US, how much does it cost, and will it be compatible with my system. Also i have a dvd player and a cd burner on my computer and heard with the right program i can burn dvds with it. does anybody know about this? if i cant its no problem my friend has a dvd burner, so i still want a modchip. can you really burn any ps2 game? isnt there any protection? will getting a modchip be a good investment? also do you have to buy the gameshark to play backups, or can you just burn the gameshark cd, and use that. also i need something easy to install or info on where i can get it installed. i live in Seattle, Washington. Oh yeah, i just found out i have a V1 ps2. the serial number on the back starts with U1. Are there any modchips for V1 ps2s that can play dvd backups?please reply i really need some help!
