Talking Burning newbie (general questions)

Hey everyone I just got a ps2 from a freind for free! Nice eh?! well anyway I have been into computers for YEARS so i should learn quickly BUT...... I am going to buy a game shark 2 and some form of mod chip here soon. I was thinking about the no sauder one where it just plugs into ribbon conntections. anyway I do have a cd burner and whatnot but not a dvd burner. I read one post of a guy saying having trouble with GTA3 and so on and another replied it is a dvd r game and needs a dvd burner. is this true and is it even worth my time to get the mod chip and game shark if I only have a regulare CD burner on my comp and not a dvd burner? what games are dvd r games and hwo can I Tell? anyway thanx to anyone who is willing to take me under their wing and show me the way anyone that helps me get going WILL BE PAYED BACK 10 FOLD! I have ummm well that is to say hehe just help me and I will be glad to help you

u will need a dvd burner to back up dvd games. u can tell if its a dvd or not by checking on the back of the game case. also the dvd games will have a silver surface. here is a site with step by step tutorials and some FAQ's:

First of all you need to identify your ps2, check this page to see how: www.modchip-sbox.com/howtoIdentify.shtml
Then you must know that crap like Neo will destroy your ps2 laser and need the swap method..So I suggest you to go for a Messiah, which is swap free for all kind of backups, but only work with Pal ps2 or Usa V4(If I'm not wrong)..If your ps2 isn't compatible with this one buy the origa(similar to messiah, but need a swap for dvd backups). If you're interested about those 2 mods mail dust2dust or charlie_ps2 for more info and prices
