help with phillips writer

I have a phillips writer and am looking for a work around.

The phillips writers will only burn unrecognise media at 2x, even if they are multi speed.

This is because, programmed into the writers bios it has info on media which is updated via firmware.

If the media is unknown it writes only at 2x, I have tried using a friends writer and hes will write media at 4x and above, while my 4x4x32 will only burn the same media at 2x.

I have lastest firmware .

That is what you get with one of these unfortunately.
Quite useless burners.
