PS2 fan doesn't spin. Is it a fuse?

Tested the fan, that's ok.
Tested the 3 fuses around the fan connection point and they are ok.
Does anyone know which fuse is for the fan? as i wish to do as little poking around as possible.
Is it true that most of the fuses look like capasitors?
Any good sites on DIY PS2 repair?

How do you know the fuses are all ok?

If you can lay your hands on a multimeter you could buzz the fuse through which will confirm if they are ok, Argos sell these about £10 upwards, very useful tool. You could also buzz the leads from the fan to the plug on the end to make sure the leads are ok as well. A multimeter lets you read resistors etc as well.

Not that I paid much attention to the insides of my PS2 when I chipped it but most p.c.b mounted fuses can either be the clear glass version of your average plug fuse or it could be just a track on the p.c.b

Generally I suspect the capacitors on the PS2 to be all surfaces mounted i.e. very small and have no legs poking through the p.c.b where they are soldered on.

If so a lot of surface mount capacitors are a brown colour with small rectangle solder tags on the end.

Presumably when you say the fan works this means you've supplied an alternative power supply to the fan or do you mean the fan worked before?


Try to get a magnifying glass as well and some bright light this can help have a good look around the circuit board.

I have a multimeter. I tested everything that looked as though it might be a fuse, but Couldn't find anything.
In the end i just wired the fan to the modchip. Works perfect.
