Getting volume levels of downloaded mps to be the same

I am having trouble getting all the mp3s that I download to be at the same volume level. Some are louder than others. I tried a program called Goldwave which I think somehow changes the level. But, it is kind of complicated. Any easier programs I could use or things I can do? Thanks.

I don't know the specifics, but you can do exactly what you're after by using Sound Forge v4.0 or higher. You use the "normalise" function.

Sorry I don't know more about doing this - I only saw it done once when I was at my neighbours house and being nosy!

All the best,

Go grab yourself some shareware bro!

Go to www.shareware.com and grab an audio editor(preferably a demo like cooledit or somthing simillar). There should be a normalise function somewere in the software (usualy in plugins or effects menu). open it make sure your level is below -0db (preferably -1db) and then normalise. Do this with all you mp3 tunes and they will all be the same vol level. Now sufice to say...you may want to use a compression filter or plugin (should be available in most wave editors). I can't go into the details of how it works(takes to long)but it compresses the dynamics of the whole wave to an even level so the whole wave has constant even volume/dynamics from start of wave to finish (depending on configuration). A compression rack can be configured to compress audio dynamics in loads of ways for different wave dynamics.

(Make sure the section of audio wave your processing is highlighted before using)
