Angry Help with Insektors, Screwed me over

I need help. I installed insektors 1.1 and it removed my cd/dvd media devices. I can't use them now. I don't have any backup drivers and can't find any on the internet. I don't have a restore cd or win'xp cd 'cause HP didn't give me one. I uninstalled insektors and still can't see them. I have a HP cd writer cd 16f and a DVD Pioneer 116 DVD ROM. Please help.

I've heard of this problem before but can't remeber exactly how to solve it! Sorry!!

Try :

In contol panel......"add new hardware"...your pc should detect the drives and search your HD for the appropriate drivers. Insectors shouldn't have removed them, just tinkered with the drivers that windows uses to control the drives.

Post back if that doesn't help.

I have done this before to get cdroms back:
Boot to a start up disk and let it load your cdrom drivers the exit and start up normally. This may or may not help.

KC....

Red face Thanx

Thank you for your help. But I tried a different method. I went to device manager and uninstalled the drives, they show up there with exclamation marks. Then I rebooted and everything seemed fine.

Glad that it's sorted
Have had my drives suddenly disappear on a few occasions leaving me in a panic to get them back. Always get them back somehow

Hi,
U can also do it by going into device manager & removing the IDE controller under hard disk controllers.
This reinstalls the IDE controller which does both the hard drives & cd-rom drives.

btw, HP's with XP normally have the restore facility on a partition on the hard drive.
This can be got at by pressing F10 when starting the machine.
U have to do it when the HP logo is displayed.
Keep pressing it & u should get the option on screen.

Regards,
Einstein
