Hi Scamper
Thanks for the reply. I am getting more confused and frustrated by the minute. I wrote three CD-RWs of different makes from the same image file (as the supplier of my Memorex TwelveMax32 writer suggested) and the first one of these played with crackled. Then I realised I'd used a compilation CD of my own so couldn't be sure if the "crackles" might have been laying dormant on the 'original'. I've now done 3 fresh CD-RWs from a commercial CD that I know is clean and I'm going to see if that works ok. Thinking about it more the first lot of CDs that had the problem weren't the Spring brand which made me think it was the Memorex writer but as I have also had the crackle on a CD written with my old Philips PCA382RW 2X writer that I still have installed (I use it mainly as a normal CD player). I'm at a loss at to what to look for next. If it's not the writers nor the CDs it must be the PC but just what I haven't a clue.
