Hey guys, i think the best software to use for music download is Audiogalaxy Satellite because of it's ability to resume file, and as for beastey69 you can have more then one file downloading at the time by clicking on your username on the website and fixing the number of download.

Napster hasn't closed. They are now just using a filtering process to filter out tunes that a few companies have specified.

I am still managing to get stuff off there - I am sure that if you change the names of the mp3's so they can pass the filtering process that would be enough. Haven't tried it - and I do not know how powerful the filtering is .....

Get napigator (addon for napster) then use it to connect to a OPENNAP server, these are like napsters servers BUT they do not filter their music.

Cheers for the info.

Nice to know people are prepared to share data instead of just downloading it.

See you soon ~

WinMX v2.51 is way cool. It is a multi-server app that logs on to many servers at once, including the open nap servers. Not only can you search for all the files that napster filters out, you can also look for video and photo files. I have found my favorite file-sharing app!

The bit abou others snooping in on your private data worries me, if this is actually what's going on with music sharing programs.

Iv'e been using BearShare for a few days: 10/10. Why? No annoying pop-ups; clear information on what's going where; it's freeware! I didn't expect much when I installed it, but I was pleasently surprised when the songs Iw anted donwloaded quite quickly on my rubbish connection (that's you, British Telecom!).

I tried the patch for Napster that unlocks all the servers, but both the standalone program and Napster just crashed. I thing you may need the latest version of Napster or something.

I'd definetly recommend it.

Here's to the continuation of music swapping - whatever form it takes!

Thanks for reading.

gnutella is good if you can get it running, you have to find a list of servers and start entering them until one is picked up, after that it takes off. Bearshare is a program based on gnutella that automatically starts finding servers but it comes with Spyware programs that can be uninstalled before you go live on the net. I've heard good things about audio galaxy but haven't tried it yet.
