FF9 back up

Alright heres what happened.
I had a party and Someone scratched my FF9 disc one beyond repair. I borrowed a friends to make a copy of the first disk so I don't have to buy it all over for just one disk.
The problem is I was reading over the site and I have no idea what to do.
I guess it has copy protection or something.
And I was able to find out my CD burner doesn't support DOA or whatever that was.
only SOA and whatever else.
How would I make a copy of this without buying a modchip or modifying my PS2?
I know i should just buy a mod chip but im not going to buy one for just one disk...
