civ3 win98 issue?

This is probably a silly question. I made a copy of civ3. it works, i can play from it on my windows XP pro machine. i went to try in on my win98se, and it installed fine. However, when trying to run it, it froze. the civ3 screen came up, but it never made it to the infogrames splash screen.

I'm curious, because i only did a minimal install on the win98 (no room), and a full on the xp machine. just wondering if neone else had these problems.
