backing up PS2 games

I borrowed a few original games from my friends (GT2, Metal Gear Solid 2, Twisted Metal Black). Many ppl say you can just do a CD-copy with your CD-burner to backup the games. However, I see there's a label on the game case saying "DVD-rom". Can I still copy it like I did before?? Thanks!

To copy a DVD game, you'd need a DVD reader/burner. Most of us use the Pioneer A03 with Nero 5.5.6.4 or PrimoDvd.

If you need further help just get back to the forum.

Then i'm confused... How come lots of ppl are selling PS2 backup in normal CD format? How can the DVD game data (ie. GT2) fit in a 80mins CD?

Because they spend their time "ripping" DVD games to CD by a complex process. Problem is that with games being 4.5GB, you just can't squeeze it down to a CD any more.

What they do is:

1 Remove all/most sound
2 Remove "unwanted" movies
3 Downsample wanted movies
4 Remove 'gatchas' such as DVD checks
5 Rebuild the game

There are utilities for each of these tasks but you have to know the game thoroughly first otherwise you'll not know which movies are vital (like they are prizes that contain clues).

People are now buying DVD writers.

The thing is I heard you can't play DVD backup on those new PS2 (30001R model) even with Neo 2.5 DVD chip. Is that true?

Thanks for the info guys!!!
