Question newbie questions

Hi, I'm pretty new at this and need some help. I've been reading alot of the posts in this forum, and have some questions. Any help is appreciated.

First, I need to make sure I have the right version.

My ps2 is ntsc, bought in Canada.
serial# u1318985
model# scph-3001
there's 10 screws on the bottom.

I think its a version 1, but just wanted to check.

I also have a bunch of questions about the kind of mod chip I should get.

I was thinking about the neo usb key. It seems nice and easy to install. But I've read in several posts here that some of the neo mod chips fry the dvd laser? Is this one of them? And can it play imports?

I've been having a hard time finding other chips that wll work on my sony. It sounds like the omega will, but I dont want to have to do the install, I dont like the sound of the 14 wires, and some of them having to be solderd right to the chip.

Doesn anyone know of a fairly easy chip to install that will play both dvd-r's and imports?

Can anyone recomend any places to get chips? Or let me know places that I shouldnt get chips from? I dont really want to get taken.

Thanks

The USB mods are very lame and won't play DVD-Rs and have trouble with those important EA sports games.

I strongly urge you to get the origa chip and have it uinstalled professionally. That plays import originals and DVD-Rs with a single simple swap.

You could take NEO2.2, but that can fry the laser unless you install a capacitor and resistor behind pin 2. The DVD-R process is much more complicated and it won't boot imports originals.

For installer try http://www.chipinstallation.com/defa...gram&lang=eng#
