Total newbie question on no cd patches

I've looked around on the net and i can't find a guide as to how to use the no cd patch once it has been downloaded. this is really annoying because i have downloaded the patch for age of empires 2 but don't know what to do with it. my saved game awaits!!
Any help would be great.

The NO-CD is gonna be .exe Just replace the original file you use to start the game, with the new one you downloaded.

Hmm...if you know enough to know that it is an archive, then why don't you know how to un-archive it?
You need 1) WinZip 2) WinRar and 3) WinAce. After installing them, you should be able to double click on the archive and it will open it up so you can extract the contents.

You only need Winace, that supports all archive types.

True, it 'supports' all archive types, but I've found WinRAR to be far better at extracting RAR files than WinAce. It seems that if/when there is a CRC error, WinAce doesn't tell you which file caused the error like WinRAR does. (assuming you're extracting from multiple volumes...) It all comes down to personal preference I guess. ;-)
