help! system falling apart

I have recently bought a cdr/rw I installed the free nero software,Good so far.
I also foolishly installed nero media software, since then my systems(win98) is falling apart.
I can't get any games to run. The first 2 error message were for missing dll files ddraw and dsound I think, anyway downloaded these and put in win/system. next error message was dll file dinput missing again downloaded to win/sys. When I try to start game error message: The Vampire exe file is linked to missing export dinput.dll Directinputcreateexe.
I also get a message:C:/prog.../vanp.exe a device attached to the system is not functioning.
do I need to put dinput.dll file somewhere else? I checked system folder and dinput is there.

install DirectX 8.0a or 8.1
