Fried laser?

I recently purchased and installed a modchip.com chip in my PS2(USA V5).My question (or problem) is that I am no longer able to boot any games at all.I also am getting a disc read error message from the browser menu. Immediately after installing the chip, I was able to boot a PSX backup just fine...but I did not play, as I was just testing. Then I attempted to boot a PS2 Original, and it seemed to work fine at first...went through all options, up to where game was "loading" but it froze about halfway through the loading and no longer reads at all.All that I can get now is the system configuration/ browser menu(whether or not a disc is in).Reading some forums on the subject, I see that there is some info on systems with V5 and NEO2.2's needing a capacitor in series with pin #6 or #2 on the chip or the laser can get fried. Is this possibly my problem? Any advice, help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

I have a similar problem with a USA v3 motherboard. The NEO 2.2 worked for quite some time (6 months). The first day I tried a DVD-R, everything went downhill. I tried adding the capacitor to pin #2, but it did not help. It might have been too late. I am now researching for some laser calibration instructions for my motherboard. I have seen serveral for other motherboards, but that does not help me. I am also looking for someone who sells the laser eye kits for a decent price (in case it needs to be replaced). I don't have a solution for you, but I thought it my be of some comfort to know you are not alone.

I have a v3 USA NTSC motherboard. I was going to attempt calibrating the laser, but I could not find any instructions for my motherboard. All of the instructions I found on the internet were for other motherboards. The differences between the boards were too many to make a valid attempt at calibrating the laser. If anyone has found a solution, I am having the same problem.

Thanks.
