Newbie questions for backing up (come flame me)

I've been doing alot of reading and haven't really come across the newbie answers that I need so here goes.....

I have a playstation 2 (with new mod chip). How would I burn a backup copy of.. say...Silent Hill 2? I know of all burning apps (nero/cd clone/cdrwin and have them all) and settings. My second question is.... how do the right files get selected? I'm burning to cdr so obiviously the dvd files are gonna make the trip. Do I have to manually omit them. I'll continue to read after this post, but I haven't seen the answer to this yet. Just what do these patch exe file do..

Thank Fellaz
Peace
