MechCommander 2 patch EXE CRASHES

For those who have actually unpacked this ACE file and used the EXE does it work??

Mine does not. It crashes out looking for a textures directory that doesn't exist even on the original CD.

Can anyone who has USED the EXE post, instead of complaining they can't unpack the file over and over and over?

I was having problems with MC2 freezing, and I thought it might be the copy protection so I tried installing the no-cd patch.

I had trouble with it at first (either freezing in startup or complaining about lack of a texture file), so I tried re-installing the full install. When it listed the options for "minimal", "regular" and "full" installs, it showed that it needed an extra .5MB for the full install even though I had done a complete install previously. I have no clue what the difference was, but after re-running the full install (which did not overwrite the no-cd exe), I was good to go.

My steps were:
* install MC2 with full install
* install mc2rel.exe from mc2_nocd.ace (used winace 2.03 to unpack it)
* re-install mc2 with full install

The no-cd method is working perfectly for me now. Like I said, I don't know what was wrong with the initial install. You might want to try uninstalling/reinstalling or just plain reinstall like I did. Can't hurt....

Unfortunately, it didn't solve the crashing/freezing problem, but that is behaving EXACTLY as it was when I was using the CD, so it is not a problem with the no-cd fix.

YMMV, HTH, etc.

While I'm posting - anyone have any news about a patch coming out for this from MS or am I the only one with freezing problems APART from issues with the no-cd patch?

I got a big tell about the nocd.I did a defrag and I got the same statment looking for textures in tgz or something to that efect,I did a complete uninstall and applied the nocd still ask the same thing once the game started loading the saved games it read needs CD can't find texture ete etc.Go figure.
PS is the final release of MC2 just have MC2.exe or do they all have the same MC2rel.exe??
