Diablo II LOD Setup issue

I recently bought Diablo II in Thailand (though it is the English version) and have been playing happily, but I wanted Lord of Destruction. I ordered it mail order and went to install and it says I need to install Diablo II first. Obviously, my copy is not being detected properly, does anyone have a workaround? (possibly a registry entry that Diablo II puts in, or a version of the setup program that doesn't check for this) Any help would be greatly appreciated since I'm going mad not being able to play my new game!
