No, there is NO need to read or write subchannel info for Midtown Madness 2 or any other Micro$oft title for that matter. You're right about it being protected with Safedisc (1) so the ONLY thing that should be #####ed is what you said not to #####; Fast Error Skip.
The copy will work if you have the sub options #####ed, it's just completely unecessary and a waste of time. It will also work without ticking F.E.S. but it should read a lot faster with F.E.S. #####ed.
